the Carlisle Hydrastar XL uses an on-board microprocessor and accelerometer to sense the amount of braking effort being generated by the tow vehicle. The Hydrastar XL does not require a hard-wired in cab electronic brake controller. The hand held actuator plugs into the cigarette lighter, using the vehicle's original wiring to transmit signals to the actuator. It is great for any situation where multiple tow vehicles may be used to pull a single trailer,
